Circuit de la croix de pierre
This itinerary highlights the historical heritage of the commune of Les Montils, which was a stronghold in the 12th century and of which the cylindrical keep, with its central well, is a remarkable feature.
Beyond the historical and architectural heritage very present in Les Montils with its remains of the 12th century fortress, the commune, richly wooded, benefits from a local environment protected by a program of conservation of bio-diversity.
The village has a group of old houses on the site of the former royal castle (in the middle of which the spectacular 16-metre-high keep is preserved) and a "Museum of ancient tools and popular art", which contains more than 1200 objects from the local rural world and other regions.
The place known as "The Stone Cross" (or St. Peter's) is one of the oldest titulatures (all places of worship) and is an indication of very ancient Christianity.
